Vision & mission

SIRP is a scientific association made up of pediatricians engaged in scientific research and researchers from other medical fields involved in studies related to children's health. Its main objective is to promote health in childhood. This is acheived by defending and facilitating pediatric research, promoting collaboration in the sector, and raising social awareness about unmet needs concerning children's health. SIRP aims to be a trans-specialist referral meeting point within the different pediatric subspecialties.
Activities include training courses and working groups for collaborative studies on research projects in various areas of pediatrics. In addition, SIRP is committed to scientific dissemination and training new generations of researchers. Interaction with other scientific societies and communication with the public are fundamental aspects of its activities.
Therefore, the key points are:

  • promoting and implementing investments in favor of the development of knowledge that can have a positive impact on the improvement of healthcare in childhood and adolescence;
  • encouraging inter-specialist collaborations and interactions within the pediatric community;
  • carrying out dissemination, information and awareness-raising activities on childhood health issues and the development of knowledge in the pediatric community with a focus on innovative tools;
  • carrying out activities in synergism with all national scientific societies in the pediatric area.

The Italian Society for Pediatric Research (SIRP), affiliated with the Italian Society of Pediatrics (SIP),  is a member of the Federation of Pediatric Scientific Societies and Professional Associations (FIARPED) and of the European Pediatric Association, the European organization that associates national pediatric societies.
SIRP consists of Founder Members, Ordinary Members and Junior Members (graduates under 35 years of age).
SIRP activities can be grouped into four general areas:

  • facilitating the realization of multicentric studies among Italian centers with high specialist expertise and recognized scientific activity in the various fields of pediatrics;
  • promoting research projects involving family physicians on emerging issues in community pediatrics;
  • contributing to the understanding of particularly complex, undiagnosed clinical cases requiring a multidisciplinary approach;
  • to approach as rigorously as possible, with a view to preparing for the future, the transformations that contemporary medicine has to face both in the field of health organization and diagnostic and therapeutic technological innovations.
